Jasmine Northcott concludes successful term as Executive Director of AthletesCAN

March 11, 2015 (OTTAWA, ON)  - AthletesCAN President, Josh Vander Vies announced today that Executive Director Jasmine Northcott will be leaving AthletesCAN, after 14 years with the organization, to take on new challenges as the Chief Executive Officer of Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada.

“Jasmine’s passion and dedication to building athlete leaders has had a significant impact on Canadian sport. Under her leadership, AthletesCAN has positioned itself as a central, performance-focused organization that embraces and amplifies the collective athlete voice in Canada,” says Vander Vies. “Canadian national team athletes from all sports are very appreciative of Jasmine’s work in areas essential to our success both on and off the field of play, and we wish her well in her new role.”

Reflecting on her time at AthletesCAN, Northcott highlights the importance of athlete leadership in the Canadian system and its growth.

“I have had an incredible experience with AthletesCAN and am so thankful for the opportunities this organization has afforded me to work on behalf of Canadian national team athletes.  It has been a privilege to work with exceptional athlete leaders and work to build the capacity for athlete leaders to create meaningful and effective change.  It has been truly rewarding to contribute to the increase in athlete leadership and the rise in athletes taking on leadership roles domestically and internationally.  Thank you to the staff and board of AthletesCAN, past and present, for your support and contributions to a wonderful 14 years with AthletesCAN,” says Northcott.

A search for a new Executive Director will be forthcoming, with the AthletesCAN Board of Directors aiming to have the successful candidate in place by 2016. AthletesCAN Director of Operations, Ashley LaBrie, has been appointed interim Executive Director to lead the organization through this period of transition.

“We welcome the opportunity to rely on Ashley’s 9 years of experience with the organization and commitment to fostering athlete leadership in the coming months,” says Vander Vies. “As we engage ongoing issues important to national team athletes, support the performances of our CIBC Team Next athletes at the Toronto 2015 Pan and Parapan American Games, and deliver our flagship annual AthletesCAN Leadership Forum, operational continuity is integral.  The Board of Directors has complete confidence in Ashley’s abilities to oversee all of the day-to-day operations while the search for a new Executive Director takes place.”

AthletesCAN thanks Jasmine Northcott for all of her contributions as she leaves the organization in a strong position, as an integral part of the high performance sport system in Canada and a leader in athlete leadership and representation.  Her last day with AthletesCAN will be March 13th. Northcott will assume the CEO position with Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada beginning March 23rd
